Homework 28th May - 1st June

We'll be doing end of year assessments over the next week or so.

Homework this week is revision:
- Revise all of the single alphabet sounds. Please do not use the letter names, but the sounds they make as this will help with blending. I have included a new visual in their folders with the Jolly Phonics sounds and associated pictures to remind them of the action and sound. The songs will help with revision too!

- Tricky words groups 1 & 2. I have included two Tricky words sheets, one for each group. These are all the flashcards your child should have in their Tricky Words folder.

NB Tricky Words are words that should NOT be blended. They are words which should be recognised instantly. A lot of these words are not decodable with the Jolly Phonics sounds. They should just be learned off.

REMINDER: School tour tomorrow! The weather forecast is looking really good so please ensure your child is wearing sunscreen as we'll be outdoors all day. Thanks!

Biodiversity Week
This week is an exciting week in the school! We'll be learning loads about the environment and various ways we can all look after the world around us. Our class will be participating in many workshops - bird watching, trip to a seaside habitat, spring clean of the school grounds as well as a workshop about plastic and the oceans.

If possible, by Friday could everyone collect some colourful plastic wrappers for an art activity - sweet wrappers, colourful straws and other plastic packaging etc. Thank you!

Also, this is completely optional, but there is a whole-school competition for bio-diversity week. A child from the school will have the chance to get their own poem read by Marty Whelan live on air on Lyric FM.The title of the poem is "Our World". If you and your child wish to make up a poem about our world, send it on to me over the next few days.

Thanks a million,
Julie

School tour

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

On Wednesday 23rd May, Junior Infants will be going on a trip to Portmarnock beach with a guide to teach us all about sea creatures and habitats. The cost of the trip will be €5 to cover the bus, guide and activities. Children should wear comfortable clothing and footwear. Please pack a rain jacket, sun cream and a treat with their lunch if you wish. We will need some parent volunteers for the trip to Portmarnock so please get in touch if you would like to come along.

On Tuesday May 29th, Junior Infants will be going on our school tour to Wooly Ward’s Farm. The cost of the trip will be 15 which includes a variety of activities at the farm and bus costs to and from Wooly Ward’s. Children should be dropped to school at the usual time. We’ll hopefully be back by 1.30pm. Children should wear comfortable clothing and footwear. Please pack a rain jacket, sun cream and a treat with their lunch if you wish.

To cover the cost of both trips, please send in €20 in an envelope with your child’s name on it. Thank you very much.

Kind regards,
Julie and Becky

HW 14th - 18th May

-Handwriting Book r and s (If the handwriting is taking ages, do 2 or 3 lines well out of the 4)
-Reading 'What do we see?'
-Tricky word - go

(You can do this homework in any order)

'What do you see?' Book

The children are learning to read sentences. They know that each word is separated by a finger space and that a full stop at the end of a sentence indicates a short pause.

While reading, please encourage your child to place their finger under each word as they read. The children should be able to use their blending skills to decode the words in this book.

Please try to read this book at least twice during this week.

The children can colour in the book if they wish.

There are extra 'u' CVC words at the back of the book

Handwriting - r and s

Try to stay inside the blue lines for both r and s as they are both small letters. Remember to use the correct pencil grip and correct formation.

Draw a picture of something beginning with r and s at the top of the page.
